How do I choose from all of the different cleaning techniques?.

A. Most carpet manufacturers recommend hot water extraction (steam cleaning) as the preferred method of carpet cleaning. This method injects chemical and hot water through your carpet and down into the pad, and then removes it along with the soil by vacuum process. The degree, in which it is injected and vacuumed, depends on the equipment being used. There are some suitable portable machines, but if at all possible a truck-mounted unit will provide the strongest pressure and vacuum, therefore giving you the best results.

B. Dry cleaning is a great idea for an emergency, but not recommended for regular maintenance cleaning. It can remove up to 60% of the surface soil, giving it a cleaner appearance. Dry cleaning chemicals will leave a residue on the top of your carpet that attracts soil and makes your carpet dirtier, faster. It also leaves a powder residue at the base of your carpet fiber. Every time you walk on it thereafter the powder granules break down the carpets fiber at its base, wearing out your carpet extremely fast. Think of it the same way you wash your hair or clothes. How well does a dry shampoo actually clean your hair? It's a quick fix in a pinch, but not the answer for actually getting it clean.

How long will I have to wait for my carpet to dry and what can I do to help it?

Approximate drying time should be about 3 hours. The quickest drying technique can be accomplished with good air flow using fans or air movers and ventilation. Turn your thermostat down; air conditioning (not heat) will remove moisture from your house.

How often should I have my carpet cleaned?

To extend the life of your carpet, it's recommended to have your carpets serviced every six months, depending upon the amount of traffic you have going through your house. If you own pets it would be best to have it cleaned quarterly to avoid infestation of fleas and tics, and in order to remove any pet stains as quickly as possible.

The dog marked his territory in the house. Can you unmark the spot?

To diminish pet odor and stains these procedures need to be followed. First, neutralize the source by applying a disinfectant. Then, pull up the carpet from that area and remove the soiled padding. After that, clean and deodorize the area and apply a floor sealer. Then install new padding, clean and disinfect the back of the carpet area and relay the carpet. Clean the face fiber preferably with a truck-mounted system. And last disinfect again and dry with air movers if possible.

What is the mystery of the reappearing spots?

Most spots that reappear after a cleaning are usually caused by sugary residues such as soft drinks, sugary syrups, detergents, oily substances, or soaps that have been spilled into the carpet. They appear much smaller on the surface of the carpet, but are in fact usually 3 to 4 times larger under the carpet, in the pad. During a routine cleaning the technician will remove the spot from the surface and all will appear to be clean. As the carpet dries the moisture wicks up to the surface and then out into the air. When there is something spilled down into the pad it will wick up during the drying process (after the technician has left) to the surface of the carpet thus becoming the reappearing spot. These spots can be removed by eliminating the sticky source, from the padding with extensive cleaning and rinsing in a much larger area around a spill. In some cases a transfer process may be required. It is very important to always notify the technician any time you have a spill, especially if you have cleaned it from the surface a the time of the spill. This will eliminate the entire problem.

My baby has bug bites from lying on the carpet. Is there a way to get rid of the bugs from my carpet?
